Our Story
A Special Place Since the Very Beginning
Honoring Vail's pioneering heritage and the Kaemmer family legacy that shaped a community.

Vail's Rich History
It Started With Two Chairlifts and a Gondola
In 1962, on December 15th at 9 a.m., Colorado's newest ski area opened with two chairlifts and the four-person Bell Gondola, the first gondola in the state. Eight runs covered six square miles of terrain, and lift tickets were $5. It didn't take long for shops and restaurants to follow, and in 1966, the Town of Vail was officially incorporated.
In time, Vail would become the busiest ski resort in the country. Sixty years after the Bell Gondola first opened, the present-day Gondola One operates in the same location, connecting the heart of Vail Village to the mountain slopes. The name “One” is a tribute to both the first lift and Vail's reputation as the best North American ski destination, and conveys a commitment to ensuring an unparalleled guest experience.

A Vail Family Legacy
Built by the Kaemmer Family
THE SIXTY TWO™ Society is the vision of Brad Kaemmer, a second-generation restaurateur with a career spanning over 30 years. John and Julie Kaemmer, Brad’s parents, arrived in Vail in the mid-1960s and opened the London Bar and Grille (later The Clock Tower Inn), setting a new standard for dining in Vail Village.
Brad considers it a privilege to build upon his family's legacy in the same place they loved the most. An accomplished hospitality executive and sommelier, Brad was born and raised in Vail and is working in concert with the local community in bringing THE SIXTY TWO™ Society and THE SIXTY TWO™ Restaurant to life.
